![]() Registered Member #597 Joined: Sat Jan 02 2010, 12:28PMPosts: 9 | I have a dilemma there are three different measurements for the keel build on the whaleboat, 1/ the book gives two depending on thickness of planing material, the upper keel is 3/64" thick 1/2" wide, the lower keel is from 5/16"x1/16" or 5/64" depending on the thickness of the planking material if its 1/32" or 3/64" my problem is I can only get metric 1mm stuff so which should I use, curious has anyone else come up with the same problem or am I just thick! I am not good with metric mick | ||

![]() Registered Member #239 Joined: Thu Aug 20 2009, 07:19AMPosts: 19 | 3/64" = 1.19 mm and 1/32" = 0.79 mm, so your 1mm stock is right in the middle of these two measurements. You could probably go with either thickness keel since the difference is only 1/64". The 1/16" thick material is likely going to be easier to find than the 5/64" stuff. ![]() Registered Member #597 Joined: Sat Jan 02 2010, 12:28PMPosts: 9 | I have finished all the hard work with the whaleboat project am now making all the finishing items, finaly got my head around the metric, Jerry it is just a minitool table saw it has a cast aluminum chassie and was available from minitool but I cant seem to find the address any more so dont know what happened there sorry, it is a great little saw with the tipped blade it is just right for making the gratings required for the battle stations project it has a 1/16" kerf, it cuts clean if a little slow on harder woods like maple but has clean finish which hardly takes any sanding, mick | ||
