But, I must admit that while lofting the plans is easy, my eyes tend to get tired rather quickly. So I decided that if I'm not working on the Eagle, I can at least work on a cross section of the H.M.S. Triton as a means of better understanding ship building from the inside out. I got the first part of the plans from MSW consisting of the keelson, keel, and false keel. Their plans are for a 1:48 scale but decided to do it at 1:24 scale in order to incorporate more details to the finished product. I believe that if I practice with this model and at this scale, once I get started on the 1:48 scale Eagle, I'll be able to anticipate areas of concern for me. Below you will find photos of what I have thus far.![]() ![]() [ Edited Tue Feb 11 2014, 03:54am ]

With life we sometimes do different things. But I sure that things will go well for you and I'm looking forward to seeing it as it goes. I don't know if its still available for viewing on MSW due to the site crash they had prior to their new site, but Uwe Karl did an outstanding job on his build of this model back in 2007. Well worth having a look at.

Since I really enjoy working with my hands, building these models just comes natural. Mike, I chose this scale in order to incorporate as many details as I can. I am curious to know if you have any information in regards to inventories alotted to these ships for this time frame. Tim, After I started this build log, I noticed that I wasn't the first and read up on your experience with the Triton. I believe that at 1:24, it will make for an interesting build. By the way, Congrats Fellow Grandpa. Winston, I read about the crash on the other site and hopefully it will not be an issue. With so many people downloading that particular set of plans, I'm sure someone may have sent it back to MSW in the hopes of gathering all the lost data. Wish me well. Raymond Sounds like you are a Grandpa already. I'm looking forward to it. Enjoy the build. Later Tim

The best part of being a Grandpa is that you can get back at your kids by spoiling your grandchild and sending them back home to their parents. LOL.

As I was mulling everything over, I noticed the cross section did not coincide with the full build version. I only mention this is because the first time I saw a cross section back in '86, I fell in love with the idea of either owning one or making one. One of the appeals that did it for me was the main mast, main top mast, and main topgallant mast along with their main yard, main topsail yard, main topgallant yard, and main royal yard, not to mention its standing rigging. As such, I've taken the liberty to tweak the cross section plans by first, renaming the frames and second, adding three more frames aft of of the current drawing. Attached you will see the alteration to the plans I made so far and I would appreciate it if someone much more knowledgeable then me can tell me if I hit the nail on the head or totally missed the mark. Winston, Since I am going the route of adding the mast, I am forced to go down in scale and build it at 1:48 scale rather than the 1:24 I originally planned. Would it be possible for you to change the title to 1:48 rather than what it has as 1:24? I'd greatly appreciate it if you could. Ray ![]()
