I say these were major since each was a scratch POF that ended up with approximately 160 pieces each. These were a fun project in themselves. I pulled the boats lines from the AOS, then did the scaled drawings based on those in DeltaCAD. So tomorrow I will be an oar making factory. I need 6 - 19mm oars and 24 - 20mm ones. I will make these like I did last time. Here are some photos of the fleet, minus the 34 foot launch which is on it's cradle over the main hatch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It has ben a lovely ride and could not have been done with out the great help and inspiration this board has given me. Now I have to put her safe and secure into her new dry dock - but it is still to be constructed. Hopefully in a few weeks she will be safe in her new home. I will feel better once she is behind glass so I can't accidentally catch a spar as I go by. Her Bowsprit seems to grow longer. Anyway, here are a few photos. I will wait to close this build log out until she is in her new case. Bill ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's one thing to start a model, it's an entirely different thing to finish one and to do so at the level that you did! This is an inspiration for me. Now, get going on that Eagle!!! No breaks allowed around here. G G

My hardwood supplier is going to have a fresh supply of walnut the end of next week. Then I will have everything to build the case. Once that is done, the Eagle will commence. I am excited about starting it. Gene your great practicum is why I chose the Eagle as my next project. Sometime during the next few weeks, while I am waiting for glue or finish to dry I will brush up on my Eagle's CAD drawings. Since I want to build it with the frames as they were spaced on the ship, I need to reloft the frames. My original were equidistant. That would look better, but I want the challenge to try it like it was found by Dr. Crisman. I might change my mind once I actually start trying to build it. We shall see. I know I can count on you guys to steer me out of the shoals should I go aground. Bill

The Mamoli plans had the flag glued directly to the mast. I didn't like it. So I cut the flag off and attached it to a line threaded through a small block attached at the top and down through the fighting top and attached terminated on the fife rail. I purchased the walnut for the case today. I have also started the finishing process on the table legs and apron. Walnut is a fantastic wood but does have a couple of issues. One is a very light sapwood, and second is the tendency for the wood's color to shift towards yellow as it ages. After researching this a bit, I decided to use a walnut stain to tone the wood, then use the Sam Maloof wiping finish over it. The Maloof finish is a poly/oil Poly/Wax combination. It results in a "Close to the wood" finish that really is attractive. The first layers of the finish are sanded into the wood (in progressively finer grit and steel wool), then rubbed off and let dried. This smooths and burnishes the wood as it fills pores. I worked out the cut list for each of the planks today. I plan on starting the milling with the larger pieces tomorrow. Anyway, it is late and I am ready to hit the sack but I wanted to give an update. I will post photos as I make progress on the case. ![]() Bill

I wanted to get that done as a test of the finish and to get it out of the shop before I started on the case. I have completed the construction phase of the case. The wood has been milled, and all the pieces have been cut, shaped, sanded and stained. I have everything dry fit. Tomorrow I can start rubbing the finish in. I have to say, this has been an interesting build. I could not possibly have done this without having the plans in DeltaCAD. There have been many times I have referred to my laptop to get a dimension. Once the table was completed the case became glass dependent. The glass was ordered based on the DeltaCAD drawings. During construction, I could change anything I wanted as long as I did not change the size of the glass. The LED lighting has arrived. The LEDs will be installed in aluminum channels that are inset into the top on either side of the glass. This should provide ample lighting for the ship. The wiring for the lighting harness runs through hidden channels in the base and corner. I have built a hidden shelf inside the base that will hold both the build log and all the plans. That way they remain with the ship. Once the pieces are all finished, I will move them upstairs to do the final assembly. I would not be able to get the case up the stairs if I glued it up in the shop - too cumbersome and heavy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
