Here is a photo of the table with the base and ship sitting where it will ultimately be displayed. Obviously the ship's base is still mahogany in these photos. I will be making the new mounting base out of walnut now that I have completed the construction of the case.![]() ![]()

I was able to get the case completed and the ship installed in her final berth. I created a display pedestal out of part of the spar material I received from the real ship. I chose to leave the back of the pedestal the the weathered state it came with. So you can still see flecks of the black spar paint on it. The lighting for the case is a custom installation of high CRI LED strips from Flexfire. They are fantastic and are bright enough that I normally dim them a bit. The color reproduction is perfect. I had a number of goals in mind when I was designing the case. I wanted to use black walnut to match that in the ship. I wanted to had state of the art lighting. I wanted to minimize the wood frame surrounding the ship, and wanted a top that was mostly glass. I also wanted a place to store the plans and build log somewhere within the case. By utilizing ΒΌ" tempered glass I was able to use the strength of the glass to enhance the rigidity of the case. I found GE Silicone Household Cement was ideal in glueing the glass, providing the holding power I was looking for while still allowing for seasonal movement. The build log and plans are stored in a compartment built inside the case base. They are not readily accessible without moving the case off the table to get to the bottom. This keeps them safe and attached to the ship should they ever be needed. A drawer built into the table would have been problematic. Plans could be removed, junk put in the drawer, and opening and I want to thank everyone for their support in this. I will be leaning even more on all of you as I start the Brig Eagle. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
