Wayne, The Treatise on Ship Building... is a fantastic read. I find it interesting that the author refers to draughts as "art" and the drafter as an "artist" in several sections. He also goes on to explain how the builders in the yards wanted to keep their methods a secret and how very little was actually put into print. It really does support much of the logic we have been discussing on this forum. I think it one of the best reads on this subject that I have seen. Thanks again. G

This vessel had about the same rake to the keel as the SEH and judging from the square holes that the floors ran through I would say the frames were set perpendicular to the keel.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [ Edited Tue Jan 27 2015, 05:51pm ]

We share as much information as we can, rather than posting the ole "that a boy" "nice work" we post information and sources. Gary took all this information and is creating a set of plans based on logic, research, and some darn good guesses. Personally I learned from everyone who added to this topic.

I have lofted 8 frames thus far and will post on Monday. I will be focusing on rationales and some of the nuances of the plans. I had to make multiple adjustments with regard to top timbers and will completly redraw the buttock lines, which are out of wack, most likley due to copying. This all being said, my Rattler and Eagle are collecting dust. Oh well, it ain't a race... [ Edited Sun Jan 25 2015, 07:16am ]

And, the frames look perp to the keel, g [ Edited Sun Jan 25 2015, 02:46pm ]

They have a full scale replica of the Tecumseth but it is a steel hull and not historically built. So I got to thinking I bet they would be interested in a set of modeling plans both POF and POB. Maybe even a model or a kit for the museum. I would love to do something like this except for one little problem. When Hobby Mill went out of business the Lumberyard got so buried in orders I am months behind, also I am in the process of drawing the sterns for the Hahn kits in 3D because a good friend of mine is building a 3D printer, I have the General Hunter on the building table and a new video series on building it, working on the Royal George modeling plans. Last of all every once in a while I do have to eat, sleep and take a shower, however I can eat and draw at the same time and take a nap in the shower. [ Edited Tue Jan 27 2015, 02:46pm ]

The thesis that I mentioned in the above email has a very detailed description of all the timbers. I was actually toying with the idea myself. Thoughts on this? Please send the contact info along if ok?

Modeling plans and a simple kit and a complex kit the bottle neck is ALWAYS building that first prototype. things work on the site because of the following Everyone can teach you something: no one is an enemy unless they insist on it Everyone we meet can teach us something new, even if this knowledge must first be distilled through reflection. Even someone who is of a completely different opinion, or with opposing values, can become an ally as long as they are open to listening. The secret is thus not to “be right” as much as it is to talk, to speak and present information in a way that makes people want to listen and understand. The only enemy is someone who insists on misunderstanding, insulting, or assaulting you and your cause. In these cases, your ethics, context, and material capacity determine your possible reactions. There is no use arguing with someone who is determined not to listen: it simply wastes psychological energy.

Thanks all for making this the best boat modeling site around. Don
