Arthur![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Member #1929 Joined: Wed Nov 30 2011, 03:05pmPosts: 3070 | That's the good part of a double planked hull, you can get away with almost anything on the first layer but it shows you where the problems will occur on the second planking. ![]() If you're running into problems now, it probably means that you haven't tapered the planks you fitted earlier sufficiently. Try an visualise how the second planking needs to run to avoid the problem in the next layer. Don't worry about how much you need to taper the final planks on the first layer, they're only there to form a base for the second planking, not to look good (although it's reassuring if they do!) Just make sure that with plenty of filler and sanding you have a nice smooth base for the second planks. | ||

Also, how do I deal with the fact that there will be space for the last plank that will be less than 1 plank wide? And any hints on how to finish the planking under the stern? As the ends of the tapers converge under the stern, I am not sure how that convergence should look. | ||

Use this first layer to work out the areas of difficulty so that when the walnut layer goes on you will have a good plan of attack and remember to save some of the walnut sawdust from sanding the final layer to mix with wood glue and use as a "filler" on some of the minute planking gaps. Lots of other great ideas and help available on this site. | ||
