I had completed the hull & deck, I was ready to step the masts, complete the deck furnishings & start the rigging. I needed to devise a way of providing a stable platform to work on, so I fashioned a berth in a box with plaster of Paris, double wrapping the hull with Saran. It works well; (I have since seen a Billing slip kit & a vise-like device. My solution is less expensive, but not so versatile.) I quickly learned that the plastic deadeyes in the kit would not accept the tensions required of them, even for a static model. I was able to find wood deadeyes, slightly larger (2 mm) by Billing. These have worked well. The most significant point I have learned is that each step requires time & patience as well as careful planning. If I get impatient then it is time to take a break. I am now into the running rigging & sails as can be seen in the photos which I hope to attach! Apparently I have succeeded in attaching them. (Oops! It appears the photos need to be rotated)I am open to any comments. Also perhaps this will be helpful to the member who just posted that he was starting the same Billing kit as this one. Thanks Ross ![]()

I too started in the 90's put it away and finally got back to it 11 yrs later. It sits in our master bedroom on display. I like the ship of the revolution, War of 1812, Boats of the Chesapeake bay. But I also love these schooners. I plan on the Blue nose in the future. The only real hard time I Have with these schooners. Early 1900's, so there is a lot more metal work to them. me not so good at the metal. But if there is no challenge where's the fun???? ![]()
