So, so long as you keep them to yourself you are fine. I don't know if you would want a rolled set. The shipping costs are extravagant compared to how they are shipped. I suppose that's because of the special handling they require. Postal rates are going through the roof here. Just to mail a letter across town costs a dollar (and taxes probably have to be added on to that). ![]()

Eisnor) Philip's son? is being very kind to offer these to the modeling community. I cannot imagine these are flying off the shelves these days! In reading further, P. Eisnor actually took the hull lines from the Chapelle book which I have. It might be just easier to use these lines to generate the frames and compare to these drawings. I dont have a ton of room to lay out prints and draft.. CAD however seems to be a very handy tool (my being pretty handy with a computer). Mr. Wayne Kempson in the other forum has a nice tutorial on TurboCAD. I have Autocad at Work (I use it) but I want to use my own stuff... I use a Mac and have been exploring other options. There are some... but they are really Klunky.. anyway this should not turn into a tool discussion. I most likely will use TurboCad for now... The fun is just starting. ![]()

Philip's hull lines are actualy based on lines plans by Roue for the Bluenose that reside at the Nova Scotia Provincial Archives. A complete set of original plans for the Bluenose do not exist (at least not that he could find in his many years of research). There are some plans in existance that were developed after the fact though from what I understand. It should be noted however that these were just a starting point in the development of his plans. They developed over time due to his research.
He did however find Chappelles book extremely valuable for providing other information relating to construction details (ie deck furniture, fittings etc) of schooners in general in his research.
We had many discussion over the short period of time that I knew him about how his plans developed. He built many models of the Bluenose and belives that each new one contained something a little different from the one before because of new information that came to light between each build. Even if it was only a small detail.
Hard to believe but it was eight years ago the 26th of February that he passed away.

Well, things with my special son flared up a bit.. but now I can get back to the shipyard. I did just order the wood for the boat (basswood, nothing fancy). And I am getting my shop set up with the tools I have and one new addition that will come in handy. A modelmakers table saw from Jim Byrnes.. I bit that bullet. Anyway for those who might be interested in costs and the such..for this model build: The wood list on page 134 up through the wood dowels using Basswood as exactly specified from National Balsa is: Code Item Qty Price Grand Total 132624B 1/32 x 6 x 24 basswood sheet 3 $3.12 $9.36 116624BSH 1/16 x 6 x 24 basswood sheet 6 $3.43 $20.58 18624BSH 1/8 x 6 x 24 basswood sheet 8 $4.42 $35.36 14624B 1/4 x 6 x 24 basswood sheet 3 $5.59 $16.77 31636DO 3/16 x 36 dowels 2 $0.37 $0.74 1436DO 1/4 x 36 dowels 1 $0.43 $0.43 51636DO 5/16 x 36 dowels 1 $0.49 $0.49 3836DO 3/8 x 36 dowels 2 $0.63 $1.26 Subtotal: $84.99 I will be purchasing the building boards this weekend as well. But I am no where near ready to start the actual build. I am in the "procurement" phase.:-) Heres a question about bandsaws and blades for basswood and boxwood. (I have a Delta 28-160 10" I got for $50 years ago).. it has a 3/16" blade on it ~8TPI and want to put a new blade on it. What do you use? A sander.. disc.. tabletop.... thinking here... Next: the engineering phase. I have the plans. I am going to create fully digitized frames and print them rather than hand draft them (I just dont have the space to set up a drafting table etc). I will start in earnest later today. I am planning to post ONLY to this forum. I do not plan to dual post to the other forum. I also will be setting up my own wiki site for my use that I will make available as well that I will keep more detailed info in. Waister Guy

I have the book and it is very cool what they have done with the small cameras. The book goes at length into not only what they found but the actions they took as a result. For instance they looked into the hull of one of their collection and realized it was beginning to fall apart from the inside. This allowed them to decide the proper course for the restoration. I highly recommend the book.
