HEY EVERYBODY, As a reminder I am using other ships for a reference on rigging the Hannah. Rattlesnake, Halifax, and Sultana. I will be adding a lot of pictures, but with not much explanation. The reason is because it would get so complicated that I would end up writing a short story! LOL! So if there is any question(s) to the method of my madness just ask and I will be able to explain in more detail for you. Hahn had mentioned in his book that the plans rigging sheet would probably be the most accurate. But when you look at his model his is a bit different. So with that I decided to go in my own direction on rigging the Hannah, but using the ships and the Hahn plans has a guide to rigging her. What I mean my own direction is rigging the boat to the look I like the most. I hope I did not make mistakes because I am not a expert on this rigging stuff, plus there is nothing I have been able find on the WWW for rigging the Hannah. ![]() ![]() I used my exacto knife to mimic the fore mast. This is called a truss. It's used to help secure the lower yard to the mast. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() more to come.... [ Edited Wed Feb 03 2021, 09:27pm ]

I am just starting to rig the Spanker and Gaff as there is so much detail to add and then my house hold chores do get in the way of my Old Ship Yard. Regards Lawrence

My wife left for out of tomn this weekend with one of our daughters. House chores caught up, so I went crazy on the rigging. When I do the rigging with research and getting it figured out I tend to get in this zone that I can't break my concentration. So I just go with the flow and the spider are working overtime. HAHA! Hey Shanks your right the knots do get a little complcated but fun to do. Mario

The theme would be that the ships retro fit is still in progress. So I have been messing around on the layout. There will be a ground cover to make it a little more realistic. I also added the back stays and the swivel guns. I have been slowing making rope hanks for the model. Cleaning up the pigtails and such. As for any pieces of thread I did not see I like using a regular ol plastic straw and blow off any dust and thread pieces I did not see. The end is in sight is all i can say. As for figures it's pretty tough finding 1/4 scale size. I do not have a 3d printer, but it would work pretty good in this case. So I may display the model without figures and later add them. ![]() The first photo shows the cannon is almost ready to load onto the ship, the second is waiting in line. Those tripod hoist back in those days are cool but might not work on my board because it take a bit of room. ![]() The scaffolding goes all the way around the boat. I just put a very small portion. I do not plan on covering up my model. It's the main subject after all. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now you know as to why I never installed the rudder and tiller. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I plan on adding a few hull planks next to the ship. ready to be installed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Happy Modeling Everybody

I was re-reading Hahn's "The Colonial Schooner" yesterday and with sculpting figures, his technique was to carve the extremities, face, arms, fingers and legs, first, straight from the roughed out block. Makes sense I suppose. Keith.
