I started on december 2015. It is my first model ship, and it's been a real eye opener for me, to the world of model ship building. Now I can't think of anything else but sailboats... Here's a few pictures of the process so far. Though I think of this Mamoli kit as overall good, it is definitely not perfect. The instructions and plans could be a little more detailed and leaves several gaps. Half the way on the project, I found a monographie about the Le Coureur, by Boudriot & Berti (excellent work); but what strikes me is some disparities between this and the plans of the Mamoli model (plans of Luigi Volonté). I plan using several details of the monographie. These are some of the differences: - The overall deck scheme differs, on hatches and doors, - Top of the bulkwards, - The way the rigging is attached to the outer part of the deck, - The Volonté model uses a capstan right behind the main mast, the Boudriot- Berti uses what I think is a windlass behind the fore mast, - The Volonté model uses a kind of board, covering from port to starboard the last meter and a half of the stern's deck, - Luigi Volonté is italian, Boudriot and Berti (and Le Coureur) are french. Today I finished the stringer, and am working on the false top timbers. I'll post more photos soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [ Edited Wed May 10 2017, 02:22pm ]

On the deck planking I will use treenails instead. I expect to receive my drill bit set this week ![]() Here's how the top timbers are turning out: ![]()

(I didn't spot the actual scale) You might save yourself a lot of work. If you do want to do them, try a hard pencil on some test planks and see how that looks.

Here are the update pictures. It's almost over ![]() There are a few mistakes here and there, but I am happy with the overall result! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

What are the black boards at the base of the capstan for? Are they something used on French ships? Thanks, Mike
