You can see from the (not-so- great) pictures how far along I was when things came to a halt a few months later. The partially completed hull sat in an enclosed bookcase for the last 22 years and is in remarkably good shape. Unfortunately, the original Mamoli box containing the remaining OEM parts along with another box which contained all my tools, building materials, and a nice collection of Floquil paints was mistakenly put in the attic during our last move in 2010 – essentially baking in the south Texas heat for seven years. Most of the wood and metal fittings appear salvageable. Where do I go from here? There is a lengthy back-story to my fascination with the USS Constitution and I have a lot of passion for completing what I’ve started…or starting over. Staring at the half-assembled hull for days on end, I’m fairly pleased with some of my 1990’s work. Other things (like the bow) desperately need to be taken apart and redone. Overall, it’s a not-so- great piece of work. Now the questions: Is the quality of my past work good enough that I should salvage what I can from the original kit and complete this model, or do I start over? (honest answers won’t hurt my feelings) If I start over, is the Mamoli or Model Shipways version a better option? Why? What are my options for obtaining replacement fittings and materials? It seems from browsing the Model Expo website they’re not what they were twenty years ago. Sadly, it seems, Floquil was swallowed up and killed by Testors. What do you guys use? Enamels or acrylics? All opinions are welcome. Hope the images work... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||
