The model is about 16 inches long x 14 Inches high with a width of 6”. One of the nice things about scratch building a model is that you can use any species of wood you like for the various parts and pieces. I like to use different colored woods for contrast. If you intend to paint your model I would highly recommend basswood for the entire model. I used European Beech for the frame, deck planking and port and starboard stringers, Yellow Heart for the side planking, Walnut for the gunwales, lodging knees and gun pedestal. The thwarts and mast brace were made from African Rosewood. The mast and sail will be next. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Like a dummy I thought it would be easy to print it out on my printer. I was wrong. After the third time of fishing small pieces of paper out of the printer I got smart and traced the lines with a soft lead pencil. The oars were made from bamboo skewers with basswood blades. All metal parts were made from 20 gauge brass wire. The display platform is European Beech. The project took about 30 hours to complete. Have fun, Mike ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I am new to model ship building and have read you use bamboo or something similar for trenails. Please advise thanks, Gary
