I like the way they look and are faster to make than bamboo. You can use either bamboo or brass it might be good practice for you to use the bamboo. ModelExpo has a 82-hole draw plate for $19.99. I am using copper wire for the fixings as I believe copper was at times used for these purposes. I must admit I cheated and made the floor boards in one piece and scribed in the joints, highlighting them with pencil to simulate caulking. It occurs to me though, that in real life the bottom timbers would probably have been laid out differently with a main plank down the centre to give a far stronger fixing for the stem and stern posts. My only other gripe is that you end up with a pointed end of the bottom boards to fit into a squared recess in the bottms of the end posts. I got over the problem by adjusting the recess to house the points, but I realised afterwards it would have been easier to square off the ends of the bottom boards and adjust the rebates accordingly. Do the dashed lines on the frames represent where to remove for fairing? And if so the dashed lines on the inside of the frames also needs to be removed?? Correct. thanks Tom

Mike Hi Mike, Accomplished two things today one of which was having the Batteau pdf printed and the other was getting a donation off to Model Ship Builder. Having this great community on the Internet with its many advantages for members, not the least being all the talent and knowledge that's available here, and folks making even a rookie as myself feel welcome, I wanted to help a little with the expenses. Thanks for the suggestion about starting a log which I think I'll be doing. In fact I may end up with serval logs going at the same time. Hope I can handle that..... :>) I'm really enjoying being a member here.

If you have any questions the guys here will be glad to help you out. Be careful about starting too many logs though it takes time away from building model ships! LOL Mike
