Guest | There is an interesting little story behind this vignette.As part of the Drumming Daybreak ceremony performed on the deck each morning at sunrise.The drummer that you see here would continuously drum until as they said in the navy you could see a grey goose at a mile.When he stopped drumming they would fire the cannon and raise the flag at the stern.The entire ship's company would be up and ready for action until the all-clear was given by the officer at the bow. This was necessary to deter any ship from sneaking up during the night to attack. | ||
