I am concerned and excited about the journey I am taking while lipstick 6 (the wife's radio call sign when I was in the Army) just rolled her eyes. Anyway, I am looking forward to start this and also to your comments, suggestions and anything in between. Political correctness is not my forte so you can fire away! So far I have assembled the two center keel pieces, keel, stem and stern. I am working on cutting the rabbet and bearding line to standards. I am concerned however about how deep should I cut them. I have also dry fitted the bulkheads into the keel. You can contact me directly at luisyfrancis12©gmail.com. Regards, Luis Gomez Gilbert, AZ ![]() ![]()

Check how thick your rudder will be. Ideally you want the planked stern post to end up the same thickness. That's where you may need to do some serious carving! ![]() It looks as though your stem will be planked later. If so, providing you can butt the ends of the planks close up to the stem, the stem planking will fit up against those ends.

I agree as long as the thickness is the same it should be OK Being the first time I have worked on a wooden model I feel a little overwhelmed, however last night I was able to remove the bevels in some of the bulkheads and appears my confidence is getting better. Since I work, I decided to devote at least an hour every night on the Rattler unless Lipstick 6 (the wife) tasks me to do work around the house. I will post more pics once I glue the bulkheads to the keel. Keep your comments coming!

I have some questions regarding the stern of the ship below the transom. So far I'm still working on the bulkheads and carving the stern/bow filler blocks. I'm taking it easy since my job sometimes takes me away from the shipyard, however, I continue to look at the build blogs here and the Youtube videos available. Regards, Luis

I, among other builders, had trouble with the transom especially since I modified it to create the stern cabin. I got my hands on the MS plans to provide me different aspects of the build - there were differences. I found the MS plans a lot more confusing than the Mamoli plans with everything drawn on top of everything else. Feel free to ask questions, and hopefully I will remember what I did if I didn't mention it in the build log. Jon
