I think I must have seen paintings showing this .Taking in the main and fore sails would depend on the weather I suppose. Keith. [ Edited Fri Sep 28 2018, 02:56pm ]

Now on a French forum one member explain how and why he furl the sail haft mass In combat if they need the sail fast it was easier and faster to deploy them if they are haft mass And on is model he just used the pulley already there to pull the sail. In my opinion it is a taste choice. All my sail are hand made so I like to show them ![]()

The Royal Louis that I am building (put aside to build the France) do not have any sail at all I have 2 more ship on the shelve that will have no sail. I know some modeller that if is not scratch from the first plank to the last any kit do not have value and if you do not use rare wood well any build do not have class, building a kit well it is not modelling. For me the most important is to do the best you can do and that all. I am open minded I give my opinion my counsel I try to not be judge mental and I welcome any comment. I know to well my limit I go to fast some time. I ignore some little defect or imperfection for the benefit of the over all look. I have always to many project on the go. But, but I love modelling it is (for me) the best hobby to have I have slight hand shaking My eyes well I never have see in 3d so any placing of part give me some problem or painting and now I have to use goggle magnifier . Even with those problem I will never give up modelling. I welcome any comment I welcome any one that try I think that a forum goal is to share not just take. Well I am ranting this morning Tanks Keith to be here and sharing your experience it is important

I did Billings Wasa in 1962 and was not satisfied with it especially after Sweden restored the real thing. For a long time I never did another model until I was 61, close to retirement! Doing a practicum of Warrior in POF I started to see that model shipwrighting was more satisfying. I suppose because I was a mechanical draftsman it was easy to understand how these ships were built and I got more fun out of the whole procedure. Now at 85, I nearly gave up altogether because of hand tremor, failing eyesight, and loss of patience. BUT----one has to do something----I can't sit around and watch TV. Is it a human curse or a blessing? Hence I started Ernestina/Effie a Gloucester fishing schooner. Nearly gave that up also, but dammit I will soldier on. About sails: many people forget that there are several ways to do them. None at all, furled completely, harbour furl, full sail. If you like rigging, any of those are not a problem. It keeps me off the street, the admiral says ![]() Keith.

I know a French gentleman he is 96y old the amount of knowledge he freely share is well astounding. I know a young men 22y just married that just start modelling ((It keeps me off the street, the admiral says) might be is case lol.)) he share his experience without any reserve. And I start to be involve first With DDM (Dry Dock Model) and another French forum I join here in 2011 and active only a very short period of time, ands stop completely to be involve even lurking for 7y, many reason for that, the point is just looking is selfish. Keith you are sharing it is what important I am not that good a modeller just an average one I know very well that, but I try to share Again I am renting One of those day I think
