Stained the deck using Antique Maple minwax with a satin clear coat over. Closest I could find to make the deck look like pine. I am mixing up the furniture paint a little from the real ship where most all of it was in white and umber. All the hull is painted to the top of the rails with black all the way round. Have the Bowsprit almost done and painted black also. There seems to be a lot of hull and bowsprit paint theory's out there. Not sure why as there are quite a few pics available of the real ship. Also who ever started the midnight blue theory for the black on the hull that is often mentioned on the web. I doubt they had a paint called midnight blue back in the 20's but I wasn't around to know for sure lol... I also found one pic on the government web site listed as the Bluenose that isn't, I must email and let them know. Ahh yes I did the scroll work too, not sure if I like it or not, let me know what you think. Now working on chain plates and the iron work on the bowsprit. Screwed up the gears off the windlass so have new ones coming from Model Expo. Few pics to follow, Cheers!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ~

Im using a fine point solderer preloaded with just a small amount. Give the piece a quick preheat then lift gently with a slight back away from the tip to deposit the solder. Appreciate the link Charles thank you! I'm now trying to decide how to drill the holes in those chain plates. Ordered some bits for the dremel so will see how that goes. I've been drilling the brass by hand with a pin vise and that is taking to long and wearing me out lol.

If it's a contractor size, best to insert a pin vise which will hold smaller bits, into the chuck. For bits I have found it's best to buy NUMBER DRILLS made in Germany--- much less likely to break. They are best obtained from jewelry supply stores. And BTW. use a centre punch!! to mark the hole Keith.

Must say I have a wife who has encouraged me in that respect--hobby wise I mean. Dremel do a rotary tool station for about $50 and change. I think holding the Dremel by hand for metal invites breakage of bits, but that's just my opinion. Here's Dremel's latest version: https://www.amazon.ca/Dremel-220-01-Rotary-Tool-Station/dp/B00068P48O/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=dremel+drill+press&qid=1550093391&s=gateway&sr=8-1&tag=duc12-20 Keith.

Having looked at it a couple of times over the coarse of this build and regardless it is sure worth having as an accessory to the dremel. As for the warden she is enjoying watching the ship take shape too ![]()
