It was built by the owners grandfather who was from Mahone Bay Nova Scotia. We thought it might have been one he sailed on. However as I checked it out it is a schooner hull with a Brigantine rig. There is a lead weight on the keel leading me to believe it was originally supposed to be a pond yacht. I just have to ask has anyone ever come across a ship that had a schooner hull but a brigantine rig built in Nova Scotia? I somehow doubt it but I just want to make sure. Cheers John Lyle

I have plans for a Norwegian brigantine (Leon, built 1880), wouldn't call it a schooner hull though. Foremast was square rigged. Keith. [ Edited Tue Jun 11 2019, 09:55pm ]

It will be complete by Friday. The owner wanted his grandfathers work to be restored so I basically cleaned the model, repaired the damage, done by mice, to the foremast and restored as much of the original rigging as I could. I figure I got about 80% of the original work correct the rest is my best guess. It did not completely follow any brigantine rigging plan that I have (I have the Leon, the Raven and the Maggie Belle ). I will post some before and after pictures of the restoration.

You can skip the technical bit if you want but have a look at the following section about using a viewer called Irfanview. It's far superior to the default Windows viewers. I've rotated the images you posted using it. I learned something about the site along the way. Although the images in your posts weren't displaying correctly, clicking on them for full size pictures showed them the correct way up! So the website is capable of correctly rotating the full picture, but not the 'preview' image in the actual post.

Here is one I was able to get some info on. The read is a mystery novel. Cheers ~ Maritime Museum of the Atlantic also lists the Amazon I believe as a schooner built here with Brigantine rigging.
