We are talking about the 17th century when everything was different. As you can see on the map the then Suydersee (now IJsselmeer) had an open connection with the North sea. Every fishermans town had its own type of boat. All those ships were flatbottoms and were custom built. ![]() The type I have chosen is the "Schokker". Vollenhoven the village it had been employed from is still existing, but no longer a fishing settlement as it is now say, "landed". Other former Islands (Urk and Schokland) are now part of a polder. So far a bit of Dutch history. | ||
