This is why you see all the weird angles because a mesh file is made up of thousands of triangles and a solid is well a solid object. program like Sketchup converts a mesh to a solid so does windows 3D view but you can not edit or do anything with those files except to look at them when you convert a mesh STL file in fusion now you can work with the file and edit it. i can see this is going to take many many hours of using the program Fusion and Blender in order to create printable files or files for CNC [ Edited Sat Sep 05 2020, 03:14am ]

From what I have read: As soon as you are exporting your cad drawing into an stl file you have changed the geomitry and lost essential infomation. An STL file is basically only usefull for 3D printing. There are no real curves at all in an STL file, it is just a simple text file with, as you say, coordinates of triangels and straight lines only. Those triangles are all totally flat so any round faces in an STL file is in reality made up of a number of totally planer faces, facetes. To make faceted surface looking smooth the software plays some tricks. This is also possible in CAD programs but those tricks won't actually reverse engineer the geometry, it is just paying tricks with your eyes. There are different ways to reverse engineer stl into true cad but it may not always work for complicated objects. Here is one way to convert stl into solid using Fusion 360 https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/getting-started/caas/simplecontent/content/how-to-convert-stl-mesh-to-solid-fusion-360-part-12.html

There are no actual curves or smooth shapes inside a STL file. The only real purpose of an STL file is for output to a 3D printer. It may be helpful for everyone to know that I am also able to take native STL files and directly import them into Vectric Aspire for 3D CNC carving as well. I have a library of thousands of pre-rendered STL objects already available for use.
