I prefer to start out using machine squares for getting to the size I need and then finish off with the calipers. Although Don's part is fairly small, we still want a nice size chunk of wood for a few reasons. 1. We are going to make several of them since this is a new prototype part. 2. I plan to fire the laser with a few different settings 3. We want a billet area large enough where I can generously space the parts out for inspection without removal from the laser. 4. We want a large billet platform to serve is a jig as we flip the parts to etch on the other 3 sides!!! ![]() But what about the char? ![]()

It is her favorite for some reason.. I will post some pictures a bit later. Of the parts... not the meatloaf.
