I’ve learned alot along the way, and a keen eye can spot the flaws, but overall I’m pretty pleased with the results. I can’t thank Gene Bodnar enough for providing his expertise and practicum. I highly recommend the project to anyone contemplating building their first plank-on-frame model. In case you haven’t noticed already, the project is now available here at the website for download. I built my version with mast stubs, and no rigging except for the gun breech and anchor cable. I chose to build her this way mainly because I prefer the look over a fully rigged model. You will notice I deviated from Gene’s tutorial some, and added a capstan. Dr. Chrisman states in his thesis that there would have been some means of “weighing anchor”. Either by means of a winch or chapstan, neither of which was found at the wreck site. Looking back maybe a winch would have been a better choice, by I just couldn’t resist adding the capstan instead ![]() Jeff ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Your pictures are quite professional, too. You may be interested in knowing that the member of the Battle of Plattsburgh Museum I dealt with said that, in all probability, there was a capstan, not a winch, exactly where you placed it. Congratulations! Gene

My guess is that after she outlived her usefulness the capstan was one of the things removed from her, thus no traces of it at the wrecksite. Nothing real spectacular in creating the photographs. Mainly I just used Photoshop to dodge out the unwanted background clutter. My goal was something to resemble the fine model photo's posted online from the National Maritime Museum. I'm in the process of beginning a new build. It will be a fully framed model of the 32 gun frigate HMS Southampton - 1757. I'll be starting a build log here soon. Jeff
