But mainly I will be going the INTARSIA(painting with wood) route. I thought I wood push myself by painting with wood. That means to me that I must be very critical with all wood seams and glueing applications. It must be a clean joint and no glue being exposed or I will fail with the Intarsia method. I decided upon this project for future projects of more difficulty to improve my model building novice skills to a level of clean and crisp joints and assemply. So I will be updating this thread very soon.... woods that will be used.... HOLLY, SWISS PEAR, BOXWOOD My plan is the flooring inside and out will be boxwood... decking will be boxwood... the white painted hull will be painted with holly... scubbers, rub rail, hatch, cleats, mast collar, trim around the cabin will be swiss pear... i have decided to show off the cabin. So i will be building a centerboard trunk out of holly and boxwood..cabin benches will be boxwood with a little trim of swiss pear....should make for a nice look... mast...boxwood i think the blocks will be swiss pear... looking into adding a bowsprit which will be boxwood... I will be looking real hard at Chapelle' book "American Small Sailing Craft" ![]() [ Edited Thu Jul 04 2013, 12:48am ]

One of my most difficult builds was a Midwest Canoe ( kept breaking frames ) my soninlaw still has a couple in good shape. I was getting prety good at it my wife got ill and I stoped to take care of her. She passed away 3 years ago. Last Sept. my 2 sons came for a visit and we found an old trunk of my wifes much pictures etc. and a old AL kit well I built it terible build my soinlaw liked it so I gave it to him. Just now getting to place I was 15 years ago. I hope you do not mind my saying this but you are far more than an intermediate builder. Looking foreward to following your builds. Especially Gun Boat, I too keep at least 2 builds going but they have to be completly different. Don

With me I am 74 years old 3 children all went to collage and doing well. To keep me occupied I do ship modeling trying to get better each build. As for Chapples small sailing craft The Smithsonian has a spiral booklet of most of Chapples small crafts plans are excellent not expensive I used to have one but lost in my moves. I am a terrible painter and I like to paint in wood also, but there are some models I have to paint WWII and Ironclades. I was going to get Air brush and compressor Model Expo has good sales, but with the Gun Boat build I think I may have to get band saw instead. Don
