Bad News on our Bulkhead Kit.
I was advised yesterday that the the laser cutter who provided us a quote in the recent past has gone out of business. Since then Dave has been checking with other laser cutters. The results were not good. He did find one which he had a lengthy discussion with. The results were that the kit would cost us well over double the cost. Kowing that we didn't have good results with the numbers the last time we tried this we didn't even bother getting a firm quote from them.
We could get them cut somewhere else at a lower cost but we'd be no further ahead as some of the material required has to be milled and shipped to them versus being able to hand deliver it locally. Thus what savings you make in getting them cut, you lose because of the additional shipping costs of the material.
I only wish we had the same kind of turn out the first time we wanted to do this as we'd all have our kits half built by now.
So, unless someone has some connections, I'm sorry to say that this whole idea has gone down the tubes.
Thanks for trying everyone.

Winston i will need the specifics: total amount of kits, type of wood prefered for the pattern and any thing else you have that you think i would need. Model Expo is located in My area and they used to have a front store and i got to know some of the back office guy's fairly well when we worked together at the model building shops.. although i haven't talked to them for a couple of years because they closed their front shop i can still get a hold of them.. Now mind you model expo is fairly large as most of you guy's know so i don't know if i can get any kind of a discount but i might be be able to get a fair price.. I think it might be worth at least a call... Send me a PM or e-mail and Let me know if you wont me to call them? Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. | Guest | I haven't followed this thread from the origins but is the laser cutting absolutely essential? What is wrong with cutting out the bulkheads with a scroll saw? Richard | ||

The issue we ended up having is that by the time we had 20 people, the laser cutter we had a quote from initially (months prior to finally getting our 20 orders) had gone out of business and we couldn't find another one to do them at a reasonable cost after that. So we just dropped the idea and wrote it off as experience. If someone wishes to pursue this area, by all means please do. I'll help where I can.
