I think it would make for one of those quality type models that we seem to see less and less of being produced these days. Don, the plans are 1:24 scale.

In total there are 64 pages of plans. If you want 1:48 scale you'll have to take them to a printer and have them scale down the appropriate sheets (template sheets) on a copier.

If that's the selling price I see no problem with that price at all considering its a POF model. that is the retail final selling cost at $260.00 and that is at the high end. I have not totally finished with the laser cutting files so maybe i can squeeze more parts per sheet. another idea i have is not to laser cut parts like the deck clamps. The builder would have to cut the notches, same with parts like the keel. The idea is to reduce the amount of laser cut parts which creates more work for the builder but will reduce the cost. i will convert the cutting files to JPEg and post them. Then we all can go over the kit and add ideas.

Only images stored as XObjects in the document can be extracted. This makes the process extremely difficult and frustrating because a jpeg is needed of the drawings to import into cad to create the laser cutting files. I did manage to extract the drawings out of the PDF file but every drawing comes out a different size. hours are turning into days and days into weeks. i have to trace the drawing and totally rebuild the model in CAD to get everything to fit. Another issue is the drawings are such a low resolution the lines look huge in cad.

The black lines of the JPEG image are 1/32 wide shown with the red lines. The yellow line is the cad tracing you can see how wide the original lines are.![]() so when you are trying to trace two parts and get them to fit you have a + or - of 1/16 of an inch. Every notch in every frame will vary in the width because it is really hard to split the black line perfectly. When we start tracing plans for the library this will be an issue.

![]() Registered Member #105 Joined: Wed Jul 15 2009, 12:01pmPosts: 3500 | here are the laser cutting files for the frames![]() the laser cutter charges a flat rate of $15.00 per sheet and i can nest 4 frames on a 2 x 24 sheet. Now if i really try harder i might squeeze 4 1/2 frames per sheet but then i would end up with the last sheet 1/2 full and the cost is still 15 bucks regardless of whats on the sheet. The laser cuts right on the line and the curf is .010 so i got to figure the shape for the chock at the ends of the frames are .020 bigger and the chock itself will be .020 smaller. I need to go back and draw the chocks much larger which means the builder will need to fit each chock by shaping it from a larger blank. This is why you only see 2 per frame in the drawing those are the originals.

The problem is this sheet is 3/16 thick so any part thicker or thinner really can't go on the sheet. One idea is to add thinner parts like the hatch coamings and deck clamps but the builder would have to sand them to the correct thickness. Other than this the only other laser cut part is the building jig. As it stands we are up to 7 sheets and a laser cost of $105.00 the rest of the kit can be milled stock.
