I did wipers on the M&M build and it was suggested I do them here as well. they were done the same way, with a twist. instead of cementing the blade on, I soldered it, at an angle, seeing where the wipers will be located. a test reveled that the angle was a bit off.......I made the adjustment and was good to go. I was going to add a thin strip of brass, painted flat black to the blades, but they looked so good, that I didn't bother.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have seen many pictures of different skis set-ups.........and going through different ways of doing this {I have to pick some of the craziest stuff to do} I settled on this. I took sail cloth and painted it with diluted white glue. I need to make a jig so I can cut and fashion the material in the shapes I need. with paint, I'm sure this will look alright. here is the material I am using, as well as some pictures of the finished boats. I'll get a gallery together a bit later on thanks for looking in....I really appreciate it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Mario - The steadying or riding sails may have dampened the roll of narrower boats and kept the head to wind or just off the wind. Many of the smaller traditional boats would be handled with only the skipper and one (sometimes 2) crew. The sail kept the head into the wind when the skipper had to leave the helm to haul a pot. The haul would start at the upwind end of the string or line of traps. As he hauls the pots, opens, re-baits, and drops them overboard again, he incrementally moves each one down-wind a bit. He occasionally gives a pull on one or the other of the riding sails sheets to “steer” the boat across the wind while drifting down on his traps.

I'm sure that there are different ways that the sail is rigged, but the most common set-up is the fixed position.
