The Editor, Paul Fontenoy, has attracted a large list of excellent authors, both academic historians and modeling experts, who will fill the new pages with articles that will be both interesting and informative. We are also moving the photo gallery of your work from the back cover to inside pages and expanding it to honor the excellent models built by our members. The extra pages will allow us to expand Shop Notes and add more member letters and questions. In response to your requests we are also including the prices of the books in our book reviews. All in all, this should make for an even better Journal while keeping the cost of membership steady at its low price of $38 a year. If anyone has a question don't hesitate to ask me. If you want to subscribe to the journal......Click HERE to Subscribe. ![]() Please have a look at what is in this issue. States that the code is found in an advertizement of a magazine but since I don't have the magazine would it be possible for you to post the code to me? Also saw the availability of volume I & II of the Notes and those do look interesting for sure. Regards, Paddy [ Edited Mon Apr 15 2013, 03:26pm ]

We will be doing another one soon for a diffrent magazine. This one is for SIS magazine. Then at some point in the future we may do one for ModelShipWorld. Do exactly what this site does and offer the publication as a down load. The problem is years ago the Inland seas Museum was making room in their library and tossed in the dumpster issues of ships in scale and the NRG journal dating all the way back to the early 50s. I thought really your throwing these out? why? answer they are magazines and not actually research material so out they go. i took them thinking some day these got to be worth something, boy was i wrong. They sat around taking up a lot of space and finally i thought i would sell them, humm not worth anything because the NRG offers them on CD and the sheer weight of the collection made them very expensive to ship. So i tried to offer them to other museum libraries, libraries, clubs and no one wanted them to bulky and a storage problem. I ended up doing what the museum did tossed them out. The NRG themselves made the printed journals worthless when they offered CDs, so reading an issue then tossing it in the trash is such a waste and not very environmentally friendly in these times or toss it on the pile in the corner. The Model Ship Builder journal i can hold all the issues in the palm of my hand on a jump drive far better than a pile of paper 3 feet high taking up room.

Dave makes some very good points. I just finished downloading the April edition of the MSB Journal to my flash drive folder for the MSB Journals. This little flash drive fits in the palm of the hand and is so small you can close your hand over it and can't be beat for portability. The one I happen to be using has 4GB of storage and costs approx. $7. You can store a very large number of multiple journals in 4GB and then some. Now, as to the NRG Shop Notes volume I & II, those I would prefer in hardcopy to have at my workbench for quick reference and not worry about being surrounded by the dust, stains and tools in use. There are times when you can’t beat hardcopy IMO. ![]() [ Edited Mon Apr 15 2013, 08:07pm ]

I emailed the NRG and pointed this out, and requested that the graphic be made available online, or possibly a copy emailed to me. I never received a reply. Any idea who I could contact?

But, once I get the info I'm looking for I prefer to read it in hard copy. Have been considering getting a membership with the NRG for the past while but just can't seem to justify it.

I am like Winston I can not justify membership, in my mind spending the money to go to a once a year conference is way to expensive for someone on S.S. or anyone of modest means, so that is no benefit to membership, there are no local NRG club meetings like the local chapter of the Hot rod assoc. As for the journal I see it this way, any information I need I can find on line and I can pin point exactly what I need. My prime interest is in Great Lakes maritime history the odds of finding articles on the Great Lakes in the journal is slim to none or far and few between. Articles take up a few pages in an issue so they are not that in depth and if they are they will span several issues. The printed journal comes out every 3 months so you wait 3 months for part two 6 months for part 3. Just like video killed the radio star the internet is killing printed journals. I can follow build logs on this site and MSW which are up dated day to day. Here is what I think they should do, "you don't need to buy a cow to get a glass of milk" so with that in mind they should collect all their articles and create a searchable on line library. This way anyone looking for information can search the data base and pay to download exactly what they want, rather than pay 10 bucks per issue for general random information.
