(my first ever project, a small scale Mediator was a bit too ambitious, so it's been on hold) Anyway, I researched the whole "nail and rove" thing and basically, either nails were driven through and then clenched over a washer, or in newer vessels, driven through and then clenched into a conical rove. Either way, the fastening should show on both sides of what is being fastened, right?. However, it doesn't look like any of the project builds in the forum show the nail heads or clenches on the outside of the hull planking. If they can, I can't see them. Is this a personal choice, or were the planks secured in some other fashion? As for my build, I cut sewing pins short, and blackened them with a blowtorch for my "nails". (haven't finished putting them all in the frame members yet): ![]() | ||
